- Database Design Studio Lite (DDS-Lite) provides a rich, featured filled
environment for the development and deployment of a relational database model.
From the basics or design, through table constraints, database table creation
and adding data to the database, DDS-Lite does it all.
- Project Manager
to control and manage all of the files necessary to
maintain a database design. All of these files are created by DDS-Lite (EERD,
schemas, scripts, source code, data file, data-load files) and you can
also include files from other applications. The Project Manager also manages
your ODBC connections as well as giving a basic database table-view from each
of the project EERD files. You can easily add new file types to the DDS-Lite
environment as well as associating the files with one of the DDS-Lite editors.
- At the core of DDS-Lite is the
Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) with added
support for the Enhanced ERD (EERD) using Specialisation and Generalisation relationships.
DDS-Lite supports the full Chen ER model as well as these new EERD features.
- Because of the strong EERD implementation, the participation and connectivity
specifications of your relationships ensures the correct Foreign Key placement, with
update and delete, cascade and restrict rules.
- DDS-Lite creates a
Data Structure Diagram (DSD) directly from your EERD
with just a click of the mouse. Using this feature you can quickly see a
visual model of the database structure that will be created by DDS-Lite.
- Integrated into the EERD editing environment is the
Constraints Editor
for adding column level constraints and table level constraints (index, check,
default, etc). Together with the DSD editor, the Constraints editor allows the
reordering of columns within a table (drag them in the tree view) and renaming
of foreign keys (double click on the label in the tree view).
- DDS-Lite come preconfigured with support for ANSI, Ingres, InterBase,
Informix, SQLBase, MicroSQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle.
Schema files and database specific scripts are
created on-the-fly as you work within
the EERD editing environment.
DDS-Lite also
generates source code for Microsoft
Visual Basic and Java (with JDBC).
- Of course no database project is complete without the documentation and
DDS-Lite includes two default reports. The first is based upon the EERD, and the
second upon the DSD. If further editing is required, these reports can be saved
in Microsoft Exel 97 format or as HTML files. The
report views include all that
is necessary for the average reporting needs.
- Shipped with DDS-Lite is our
SQL Console (SQLC) software which allows
you to connect to any ODBC data source. So all within the one software package you
can design create and connect to the database!
- For quick testing or a finished database, you can create, access and query a Microsoft Access
database based upon your EERD model without the owning or installing Microsoft
Access. All from within the DDS environment!
- DDS-Lite uses a proprietory
Datastore for creation of
data that can be used for testing and uploading into your database.
- DDS-Lite generates Java source code for creating and dropping tables within
your JDBC accessible database (JDK is not included).
- Full-screen view for all document views (EERD, SQL, Java, etc).
